Harrison High Student Arrested

Deangelo Damond Harris was booked into the Cobb County jail on a charge of sale of marijuana.

A 17-year-old Harrison High student spent part of Friday and Saturday in the Cobb County jail after he allegedly sold marijuana to a 15-year-old student on campus.

According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, someone reported their suspicions about Deangelo Damond Harris and the 15-year-old male student to an assistant principal. The administrator met with the 15-year-old boy.

"While walking to (the) principal's office, the 15-year-old was asked if he had anything he should not have on campus," according to the warrant. "The student responded, 'Yes, I have drugs in my bag.' "

From a bag, the student removed a plastic prescription bottle containing less than one ounce of suspected marijuana, records show.

"The 15-year-old student said he purchased the marijuana from student Deangelo Harris in the boy's bathroom at the 800 end of the 300 hallway," according to the warrant. "The 15-year-old said he paid Deangelo $40 with 2-twenty dollar bills."

Harris allegedly had two $20 dollar bills in the pocket of his jeans, but said it was compensation for holding the marijuana for the 15-year-old student, who did not want to get caught with it at school.

"Deangelo said he was not going to take the risk of having the marijuana without getting paid for it," according to the warrant.  "Deangelo said he decided not hold onto the marijuana and gave it right back to the 15-year-old. Deangelo said the 15-year-old just let him keep the $40. I advised Deangelo that his story did not make any sense and I doubted anyone would believe it."

The suspected marijuana was submitted to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for analysis.

Harris was booked into the Cobb County jail on a charge of sale of marijuana. He was released early Saturday on a $5,000 bond.
