Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Kennesaw State University Student in Athens

Emily Bowman, 19, was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

As authorities investigate a hit-and-run that critically injured a former Kennesaw State University student, the mother of the 19-year-old victim said just before noon today that her daughter continues to have bleeding and swelling around her brain. Click here for details.

A 19-year-old Kennesaw State University student is fighting for her life after a hit-and-run driver struck her as she walked early Saturday morning near an Athens roadway.

Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass when a 1997 red Mazda pick up truck traveling eastbound on Oak Street left the roadway, hit her, then fled the scene, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

She was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Her father told the AJC that she was in Athens for a friend's birthday. 

On Kennesaw State's Facebook page, school officials wrote that their "thoughts are with Emily & her family at this time."
