Kennesaw Neighborhoods, Police Come Together for National Night Out

The drug and crime prevention event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Swift-Cantrell Park.

The city of Kennesaw will join thousands of communities next Tuesday for the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out is sponsored by the ο»ΏNational Association of Town Watch and aims to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness while strengthening organized community and police partnerships.

officials announced that the department will join the nationwide effort by hosting a block party for Kennesaw citizens. Public safety vehicles will be on display at on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Police officials will also be handing out safety information for adults and children.

More than 37 million people from 15,000 communities are expected to participate this year, according to event organizers. In order to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention, residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors from 7 to 10. Communities throughout Kennesaw will host a variety of events, including cookouts, block parties and youth activities.

β€œThis is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity," said National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin in a statement. "National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation."
