Pickup Truck in Hit-and-Run Registered to Cartersville Man

Former Kennesaw State University student Emily Bowman remains in a coma at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The red Mazda pickup truck that authorities located shortly after a former Kennesaw State University student was critically injured in an Athens hit-and-run accident is registered to a 22-year-old Cartersville man, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald

Neither the man nor his parents are cooperating with the Athens Clarke County Police Department, the story says. His mother lives in Watkinsville and father in Lawrenceville.

Also, police found a bottle of liquor inside the truck, the story says, and empty beer cans in the truck bed.

Former Kennesaw State student Emily Bowman, who is from Woodstock, was in Athens to attend a friend's birthday party. As she walked on the grassy shoulder of Oak Street just after 3 a.m. Saturday, a pickup truck hit her and fled the scene. Bowman, 19, remains in a coma at Athens Regional Medical Center, where she was taken after the incident.

Her companion saw the truck cause the accident, the newspaper story says, and another witness allegedly saw the driver, who abandoned the truck, walking on Lexington Road near Carmike Cinemas 12 at 4 a.m.
