Police: Kennesaw Woman's Death an Apparent Suicide

Cobb police and fire officials believe she set her home on fire before turning a gun on herself Friday.

A woman whose body was pulled from a house fire in Kennesaw Friday appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Cobb Police.

Sgt. Dana Pierce said in a release this morning that Velma Hill, 54, was pronounced dead on the scene, and that police and Cobb fire officials believe she set her house, located at 3604 Memorial Parkway, on fire beforehand.

Pierce said the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death, and that police and fire officials are continuing their investigation.

The MDJ reported that a dog living at the home also died in the fire and that the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
