SPSU's Globe Knocked Over
Southern Polytechnic State University's iconic globe, which was the site of a rally on Monday to voice disapproval over the proposed SPSU-KSU merger, was found knocked off its base with "Save SPSU" graffiti.
School officials and police at Southern Polytechnic State University are investigating how the school's giant globe was knocked over Tuesday evening, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Campus police are investigating to see if the incident was an accident or something else, possibly tied to students unhappy with the proposed SPSU-Kennesaw State University merger.
The campus landmark was laying on its side. Graffiti protesting the merger, including "SAVE SPSU," was on the globe itself as well as sidewalks surrounding the base, according to the AJC, WSBTV and 11 Alive.
The "Save SPSU" text is tied to opposition toward the proposed merger.
In the wake of last week's news that Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University were set to merge by 2015, SPSU students held an on-campus rally Monday to voice their disapproval over the plan. The rally was held near the globe.
Several students and faculty members spoke during the event. Those who came to hear the speakers walked on sidewalks adorned with messages such as "#savespsu".
