Store Licensee, Employee Cited for Underage Sales

The sale at the Shell Food Mart on Barrett Parkway was caught during a compliance check.

A business lost its alcohol license for 10 days after being caught selling alcohol to a minor.

Sgt. Dana Pierce, the 's public information officer, said that an alcohol compliance check was performed at the on April 5, during which sales clerk Huseyin Erikli sold a 12-pack of beer to an underage volunteer.

Erikli was issued citations for the sale to an underage and for not having a valid alcohol permit. The business' licensee, Ersin Balam, was given a citation for allowing an employee to work without a valid alcohol permit. The business' alcohol license was suspended for 10 days.

An employee reached at athe store on Tuesday afternoon referred questions to Balam, who he said had left for the day.

Pierce said the case was referred to . An employee there said that, since Erikli's case is still open, no information such as the amount of his fines were available. No information on Balam's case was in the court's system.
