A new warrant filed on Wednesday has changed a charge against the Marietta father accused of leaving his son in a hot car last week from first- to second-degree child cruelty.

Justin Ross Harris is also charged with felony murder in the death of the toddler. While still a felony, the second-degree cruelty charge implies that authorities do not think there was criminal intent.

The warrant outlines some more details as to what happened that June 19 day when 22-month Cooper Harris spent approximately seven hours inside his father’s 2001 Hyundai Tucson.

According to the warrant, the elder Harris ate at a Cumberland Parkway Chick-fil-A on the morning in question, and then went to work nearby at the Home Depot headquarters, leaving his son strapped inside the vehicle.

During lunch, Harris returned to the SUV and placed something inside the vehicle via the driver’s side door and then returned to work.

This is a developing story and check back with Patch for updates.

There are ads for adoption all over. And for animal adoptions. But I have not seen, in many years, any ads for Safe Haven locations. The only little sign I saw recently is in front of our hometown police station. As a society, we need to step up the awareness levels so that when people no longer want to care for a living being, they know where they can leave them in safety. We need to give simple, clear instructions that you don't HAVE TO raise that kid or clean up after that puppy. Give them to someone who cares. Let's get those ads going!

That's an understatement if I ever heard one.

* UP SCOPE ================================================ Take a close look at Cooper's head in the picture. He suffered from a birth defect. He had what is called "Water on the Brain". The condition worsens with age and is debilitating. ================================================ Remember this innocent little boy. This is so Sad and totally unnecessary. This man and maybe his wife did not want the responsibility and expense of rising him. ================================================ Down Scope
