Awards Presented to Five City Employees

The City Council also held public hearings for an ordinance to amend city code for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages at city-sponsored events.

Kennesaw presented incentive recognition awards to five city employees during Monday night's City Council meeting. The awards recognized the recipients' contributions to the promotion of safety and efficiency in city operations.

The five recipients included Bobbie Duke (911 Communications), Roderick Bowman (Public Works), Mark Benio (Parks and Recreation), Alberto Avila (Parks and Recreation) and Steve Turner (Public Works). The awards were presented by Mayor Pro Tem Bill Thrash in place of Mayor Mark Mathews, who was out of town and could not attend the meeting.

Thrash said Duke reduced fees by $36,000 per year by installing wireless modems for the city.

Bowman, Benio and Avila received the award for their landscaping work on the Depot Plaza.

Turner was recognized for saving the city thousands of dollars by discovering five underground storage tanks on the property during construction and monitoring their removal, despite the area being outside his jurisdiction.

In other news, the council held public hearings for an ordinance at city-sponsored events and parks.

The proposed changes are meant to clear up confusion about whether certain types of alcoholic beverages are technically allowed under current law. The ordinance would also allow for the commercial sale of alcohol at city-sponsored events.
