City Council Discusses Southern Museum Marketing Bids

The City Council deliberates settling on a marketing firm for the Southern Museum.

The City Council of Kennesaw has opted to reject bids from two firms looking to assist with marketing for the .

The mayor and council had approved of an RFQ (Request for Qualification) process on June 6 and released the RFQs on the 24th of the same month. Three companies submitted RFQs: O’Neill Communications, Mopdog Creative Strategy and Jump Dog Communications

According to Dr. Richard Banz, Director of the museum, Jump Dog was “eliminated immediately based on spelling and grammatical errors in their RFQ.”

The council deliberated for about 20 minutes over whether to hire Mopdog or O'Neill. Banz recommended that the council discard the RFQs from both companies and reopen the RFQ process for other companies.

“(The companies' answers to questions) weren’t the most spectacular results we were looking for,” Banz said. He said that whichever company was chosen would be receiving $168,000 in funds and that neither company impressed enough to warrant that sort of funding. agreed. 

“From a visual arts standpoint, I was not impressed with either (company),” he said. “Both had extreme amounts of opportunity to have produced some type of marketing plan. Neither one put forward a great marketing plan.”

The council agreed that a new RFQ process was needed, meaning that the search will begin again from scratch. The final decision will be rendered at the next City Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 17.

In other news, the council also discussed whether to ratify a decision made by the License Review Board to deny a pouring license to Kristina Halligan.  According to the session agenda, Halligan was denied a license because she did not list all arrests when she applied for the license. The city clerk recommended that the council uphold the decision. It will be voted on at the next City Council meeting. 

The council will also vote on whether to approve a resolution to award a uniform rental and laundry services bid to G&K Services. The company was the only one that applied. The review committee recommended approval.
