EAGLE Awards All Around

Mayor Mark Mathews presented five EAGLE awards during Monday night's Kennesaw City Council meeting.

Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews presented five EAGLE awards during Monday night's City Council meeting where about 20 citizens were in attendance.

The awards are given to outstanding city employees every quarter. Monday night's awards were the first for 2011.

EAGLE is an acronym under which each letter represents a phrase. E stands for "exceptional customer service," A for "above and beyond attitude," G for "generating opportunity for revenue," L for "leading by example" and E for "effective cost control/ cost savings."

The next award was presented to Linda Martin in acknowledgment of her work as the Coordinator of Human Resources for the City of Kennesaw.

"She has a personable way about her that makes you comfortable talking with her,"  said Mathews as he presented the award.

Next was Leean Keanum of the department of Finance.

Mathews acknowledged her "unique ability to calm irate customers so that no one leaves unhappy."  He also mentioned her efforts to help collectors collect nearly $200,000 from delinquent sanitation accounts.

The final two EAGLE awards were presented to officers Wallace Morton and Joshua Irwin. Morton and Irwin received the awards for their efforts in cracking down on drugs in the city with the aid of K-9 units.

According to Mathews, the two officers formed a cohesive team early in the quarter which worked closely with K-9 units in an effort to seize illicit drugs from specific areas in the city.  They also gave demonstrations to high school students at Kennesaw Mountain, as well as demonstrations for Criminal Justice students at Kennesaw State University. Mathews also acknowledged the officers' work with ICE.

The mayor ended the presentation with a call for one more round of applause for the city's exceptional employees.
