The Field Day is part of the community's larger , which aims to make Kennesaw the most active city around. City Council member and Fit City organizer Cris Eaton-Welsh said 600 people showed up to the in February, which is double the number that was expected.

Eaton-Welsh said the initiative has gotten off to a great start, having connected community members through fitness. Coming up, the Kennesaw Grand Prix series of 5k races kicks off with the on May 12.

Eaton-Welsh said the city's road races encourage community fitness without burdening city tax payers. "Not only do the road races make money, we actually pay a $2000 fee associated with any labor," she said.

Eaton-Welsh, who is an active runner, suggested the following training regiment in preparing for a 5k race. "Run for 30 seconds, walk for four and a half minutes. Run for one minute, walk for four minutes," she said. "Incrementally, then you reach that threshold."

Other Fit City plans are in the works due to connections with a number of community partners, including the Atlanta Hawks, the Lt. Governor's Office and more, she said.
