Kennesaw Mayor Celebrates Read Across America

He visited Hayes Elementary, Primrose School of Kennesaw North and Primrose School of Wade Green on Friday.

Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews today joined students from Hayes Elementary, Primrose School – Kennesaw North and Primrose School – Wade Green for a reading session in honor of Read Across America Day. The National Education Association (NEA) event is a nationwide reading celebration held at the beginning of March in celebration of the birthday of Dr. Seuss (real name: Theodore Geisel).

The Mayor and the children read Dr. Seuss’ “It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny” and “The Tooth Book.” “It’s so much fun seeing the enjoyment the kids get from these stories,” said Mathews. “They’re so eager to learn and I’m glad to help build their interest in reading because it’s such a critical skill for success.”

Local libraries and schools across the country are hosting events on Read Across America Day focusing on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.
