10 Years Later: Kennesaw Soldier Among Iraq War Casualties

The 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago this week on March 19 and although officially "over," fighting continues with discouraging persistence.

The U.S-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago on March 19, 2003. By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting.

In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 141 Georgians.

Among them is one soldier from Kennesaw. From the CNN war casualties website:

  • Airman 1st Class Antoine Jermaine Holt, 20, 603rd Air Control Squadron, 31st Operations Group, 31st Fighter Wing. Died from injuries sustained when a mortar round hit his tent at Balad Air Field, Iraq, on April 10, 2004.
