Mayor Vetoes Sidewalk Project

Matthew cites concerns about reports of "performance issues" with paving company's previous work.

Mayor Mark Mathews announced today that he exercised his veto authority to nullify the award of a project to Baldwin Paving that was approved during the Sept. 4 meeting of the Kennesaw City Council.

The project involves construction of an eight-foot sidewalk approximately 800 feet long on Sardis Street, the announcement said.

The mayor in a news release cited concerns about reports of performance issues with Baldwin Paving during their previous work on the Jiles Road widening job. No other details were immediately available.

Staff is reviewing options for further actions on the project, which is funded through the Georgia Department of Transportation as part of their Livable Center Initiative program.

Details of the council meeting and other action can be found on the city website.
