The 2014 and 2016 Elections:

Election commentary for 2014 and 2016

Sunday, May 26, 2013

"A negative victory in 14 is not the same as a positive victory in 16", said Newt Gingrich 5/26 on the CNN Crowley 'State of the Union' program.

Midterm elections normally break for the party out of power and in the case of the 2014 bi-election this will be greatly enhanced with the various Obama scandals which will ensure a good bump for the number of Republican representatives in the House and quite possibly taking the Senate back for the GOP.

However, serious problems of leadership, or the lack of it, on the Republican slate will not guarantee a 2016 victory for President and might even move the Senate back into the Democratic column.

While it may seem in the short term that the Republicans will control both houses of Congress, it may be a pyrrhic victory if Mrs. Clinton is not more seriously damaged in coming months for her tenure at State for the Benghazi screw up.

Clinton is perhaps the only Democrat who could ensure a Presidential victory for them in 2016. With any other Democratic contender it would simply be a dog fight with Republicans for the office after Obama leaves.

Misc: Newt Gingrich may well be back in the House after the 2014 election. He is running in the Republican primary to replace current incumbent Rep. Phil Gingrey, who now runs for the Senate. The winner of the Republican primary for the vacant District 11 House spot will win that seat as the District is heavily Republican.
