Army ROTC Scholarship, More Available to Students

Be sure to review our list of scholarships as many deadlines are approaching this winter.

Here's a list of scholarships currently available to local high school students. It's important to review available scholarships now as many have an application submission deadline this winter.

Better Business Bureau of Student of Integrity Scholarships

Applications are available at www.atlanta.bbb.org or at http://atlanta.bbb.org/2012 for the Student of Integrity Scholarships. Six students will be chosen to receive the scholarships.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program provides outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students an opportunity to complete an undergraduate degree. To be considered students must: be a citizen or permanent resident, have at least a 3.3 unweighted GPA, demonstrated leadership and meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility. Check with the School Counseling Office for an application to submit by Jan. 10.

Univision Scholarship Application

Applications are available now for this scholarship at www.eselmomento.com for all Latino students, including undocumented students. 

Cooperative & Work-Integrated Education

Cooperative education could be a key factor in choosing a college. The School Counseling Office has the 2011-2012 Resource Guide titled The Best of Co-op: A Guide to Leading Colleges and Employers. A $6,000 merit scholarship is available. See your school counselor for more information.

North Georgia College & State University-ROTC Scholarship

The Army ROTC scholarship pays your tuition and fees or room and meals; a monthly stipend ($300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors); and $1,200 per year for books. They’re awarded on merit: academic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal interviews, and physical fitness. You agree to serve four years in the Regular Army as an officer after graduating from North Georgia. This scholarship is worth $50,000 over four years or $38,000 over three years. For Georgia residents who are eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, the Army ROTC Scholarship is used to pay for room and meals. Georgia residents on the ROTC scholarship will receive up to $1,500 in grants from the State of Georgia at the end of each semester.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority College Scholarship

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has offered a $1,000 scholarship to encourage young African-American women to achieve excellence through higher education. Senior girls must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, live in Cobb, Cherokee or North Fulton, and must attend an accredited college, university or post-secondary institution.  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office and are due by Jan. 14.

Third Bank & 680 the Fan Scholarship

Each week a high school student’s application will be drawn to win a $1,680 scholarship thru the football season (Aug. 29 – Dec. 12). At the end of the 16 weeks, one of the weekly winners will then be qualified to win the grand prize scholarship of $5,300 on behalf of Fifth Third Bank. Students 16 years or older can apply by downloading an application at www.680theFan.com or pick one up at Fifth Third Bank.

Elks – Most Valuable Student Scholarship

The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards over $2M in scholarships. Based on leadership, work experience, scholarship, citizenship and need, seniors are encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted through the link or mailed to: Greg Shelby, 5871 Edenfield Court, Acworth, GA 30101. Submit the application by Dec. 2.
