Community Remembers Coach on His Birthday

KCSMA and local businesses are working together to raise funds for Coach Jay Ingram's family.

Students, faculty and staff at Kennesaw Charter Science and Math Academy are wearing yellow today in memory of Coach Jay Ingram, the physical education teacher who was struck by a vehicle while jogging last month.

More than 1500 people gathered on a soccer field and released yellow balloons into the sky to pay their respects to the well-loved Kennesaw community member.

The father of two would have celebrated his 33rd birthday today.

According to a message from school Principal Kay Frey, the school has raised more than $2500 in T-shirt sales to help Ingram's wife, Corinne, and their two children, Aiden and Kailyn.

The school is also selling yellow wrist bands and car stickers with all proceeds going to the Ingram family, and continues to collect donations to be deposited into the Bank of America account set up in Coach Jay's honor.

"We are proud to announce a partnership created by Coach himself, with the Gymnastics Academy just across the street from our new school," said Frey, referencing the new 100,000-square-foot facility on Cobb Parkway, which is set to open next month. Frey said Ingram established a partnership with the Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta so students could attend fun nights with professional instruction in gymnastics. He had also planned on this being a fundraiser to help pay for the circus he was organizing for September, Frey said.

"While Corinne and the staff are committed to making sure the circus is a big success, GAA and the KCSMA staff want all proceeds from our partnership to go to Coach’s family," she said, noting that the school and gym would hold two "date nights" on March 2 and March 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Kid to Kid, located at 2953 Cobb Pkwy. in Kennesaw, is also working with the school to help raise money for the Ingram family. On Monday, March 5, 20 percent of all store proceeds will be donated to the Ingrams.
