Dunk Club Honors Jerry Coleman

The Flying 101 Dunk Club held a special tour in honor of the standout high school basketball star and KSU student who died in December.

Members of the Flying 101 Dunk Club recently performed high flying dunks at local universities and schools in memory of Jerry Coleman, the freshman and standout high school basketball star following a wisdom tooth surgery.

According to the club's YouTube channel, Coleman was a member of the Christian-based dunk clubβ€”a network of world class dunkers who perform at halftime shows and volunteer at community events.

A YouTube video posted on the channel shows friends and members of the club performing dunks on the basketball courts at Kennesaw State, Emory and local elementary and high schools during the Jerome Coleman Jr. Dunk Tour from Feb. 3 to Feb. 7.Β

Another video shows a glimpse into the life of the 19-year-old, who was named only a year ago as a member of Central Gwinnett's basketball team. Former coach David Allen said the teen had planned on trying out for KSU's basketball team.

According to the tribute video, Coleman "became one of the best dunkers in the world" before suffering a serious injury. "Luckily we have footage of his peak," the video says before rolling a montage of the teen performing several high-flying feats.

"Jerry was a true example of the strong, silent type who led not only with words but more with his actions. Jerry will be missed but his spirit and example lives on in all the lives that he has touched," reads a tribute on Central Gwinnett Basketball's website.

Coleman's mother, Tracy Knight, said that if her son could leave one message, "It would be for all of you to continue on, to give life your very best."
