GDOL, Chatt Tech Seek Unemployed Workers

Recruitment for a short-term technology training program will take place Nov. 15.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Cobb-Cherokee Career Center will help Chattahoochee Technical College recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the technology field.

The training program is entitled Jump Start Your Career in the Technology Industry. The recruitment for the program will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the career center, located at 465 Big Shanty Rd. in Marietta.

The classes will be taught during the 2013 Spring Semester, beginning January 12.

Representatives of the college, including training instructors, admissions officers, and financial aid personnel, will be on hand to provide information about the training programs.

Classes include heating and air conditioning, building and facilities maintenance, industrial electrical technology, electrical and computer engineering, welding and joining technology, and horticulture.

Graduates of the training program will be qualified for entry-level positions in their field of study. Salary ranges are as follows: heating and air conditioning technicians, $30,440-$54,300; building and facilities maintenance, $25,600-$51,600; industrial electrical technicians, $41,000-$58,100; electrical and computer engineering technicians, $58,000-$75,800; welding, $26,460-$50,020; and horticulture, $16,950-$43,160.

Placement services will be available for the graduates.

Chattahoochee Tech, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is located at 980 South Cobb Dr. in Marietta. It also has other campus locations serving Cherokee, Cobb, Bartow, Gilmer, Paulding, and Pickens counties.
