Kennesaw Elementary Read-A-Thon

is nearing the end of its two-week Read-a-Thon, which challenges students to read and log their minutes.

The fundraiser for educational programs and events lasts until Feb. 10. More than $15,000 in prizes and awards will be given to encourage students to read, said school PTSA spokeswoman Melanie Cooper.

During the event, the Cat in the Hat will bring around "The Big Wheel of Fun" to classrooms where kids can spin for prizes such as books, activity passes to and DAC Kids, and Barnes and Noble bears.Β

The classes with the highest reading minutes in each grade will get a chance to win prizes like a kickball game against the .Β 

"We will be glad to report final reading minutes as soon as we have them," Cooper said.
