Kennesaw Mountain Student Wins American Legion Contest

She will represent Post 304 at the district-level this Saturday.

Kennesaw Mountain High senior Audrey Milam is one step closer to winning more than $20,000 in cash and scholarships after she was named the top local orator at Saturday's 76th Annual American Legion High School Oratorical Contest.

Milam, who chose third party representation as her topic, won $300 as well as the chance to represent North Cobb Post 304 at the district-level competition scheduled for 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Marietta Post 29, 921 Gresham Ave., Marietta.

Second place honors went to Allatoona High junior Cameron Ulrich ("Loyalty to the Government"). Acworth home school student Noni Lawson won third place ("The People’s Gift"). Allatoona High senior Jana Ford got fourth place ("Our Duty to Tell the Government What We Want").

Ulrich and Lawson received cash prizes for finishing in the top three.

After Saturday's district contest, there are two more rounds of competition before the national finals commence April 19 in Indianapolis.
