KSU Dance Company Invited to Kennedy Center

The Kennesaw State dancers will perform "Rhizome" at the National College Dance Festival.

The  Dance Company has received its third successive invitation to perform at the National College Dance Festival, an event held every two years to highlight outstanding choreography and performance being created on college and university campuses across the country.

The event will be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC from May 24 to 27. KSU is among only 30 participating schools selected based on outstanding artistic excellence and merit.

The KSU dancers will perform Rhizome with choreography by Ivan Pulinkala, director of the KSU Program in Dance. The company last performed Rhizome in January during the Off the Edge international dance festival at the Rialto Center.

"Since its inception, the Program in Dance has strived to be a creative leader in the Southeast. This national recognition is a tremendous accomplishment for our students and faculty," said Joseph Meeks, dean of the College of the Arts.

The dance program, which was started in fall 2005, is housed in the Department of Theatre, Performance Studies & Dance within the College of the Arts. Under Pulinkala's direction, it has grown into one of the Southeast's leading undergraduate dance programs. This summer, KSU will break ground on the second phase of the dance facility, adding studio space, a costume shop, a scene shop, a student lounge and additional faculty offices.
