KSU Student Plays in Golf Championship

Kennesaw State University rising sophomore Kaew Preamchuen (Chachoengsao, Thailand/Datdaruni School) begins her second round of play at the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio, today. Preamchuen is one of 156 players set to tee off during the opening day of play.

The tournament format calls for 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday with the top 64 advancing to match play beginning Wednesday and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, Aug. 12. Match play seedings will be determined by stroke play finish.

Preamchuen, who is appearing in her first U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, is scheduled to tee off at 12:50 p.m. today from the 10th hole. She is grouped with Maia Schechter (Takoma Park, Md./North Carolina) and Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Cincinnati).

Live scoring of the championship is available online at www.usga.org. The Golf Channel will provide live coverage of match play Wednesday through Sunday. Each day's broadcast will air from 3-5 p.m.

"It is such an honor for Kaew to qualify for this event and to be representing Kennesaw State,” KSU head women’s golf coach Rhyll Brinsmead said.  “To be able to caddy for her and to experience this with her is really special. After two solid practice rounds we feel well prepped for the 36 holes of stroke play."

Preamchuen said she's happy to be representing Kennesaw State.

“The course is beautiful and sets up really well for my game," she said. "I feel very confident about playing well this week, and having Coach (Brinsmead) caddying will really help."

Preamchuen qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship by recording a birdie on the opening playoff hole of qualifying at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge on July 9. She is the second Kennesaw State women’s golfer to qualify for the championship, joining her sister, Ket, who competed in last year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.
