Kennesaw Middle School Students Suspended for Alcohol Use

Parents of students at McClure Middle School say their kids were unaware they were drinking alcohol.

Parents at in Kennesaw are appealing to the school board after their children were suspended for drinking alcohol on campus.

A student allegedly brought alcohol to the school, then passed it around to about 10 girls, according to a report by WSBTV.

Mirate Augustine, an 8th grader who was suspended for sipping the alcohol, told WSBTV she didn't know the liquid was vodka and that she was "shocked" when she tasted it.

"I thought it was like some type of chemical or something," said Augustine.

Parent Kandal Lewis-Ursin said she believes her daughter was unaware she was drinking alcohol and that her 10-day suspension was a harsh punishment.

"This is going to go on her record," said Lewis-Ursin. "And it also has prevented her from going on her 8th grade field trip, which she's been working for for a long time."
