Papp Gets $50k Pay Hike

President Daniel Papp will see his total compensation package increase by $50,523 to $370,000, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Papp is one of four Georgia college presidents who will receive pay hikes, effective July 1, due to action taken by the Board of Regents Wednesday, the AJC reported.

Georgia Tech President Bud Peterson's deferred compensation will increase by $166,666 to $756,666, and the salaries for Gary McGaha, president of Atlanta Metropolitan College, and David Bridges, president of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, will increase by about $25,000 to $198,000, the AJC reported.

Private college foundations will pay the increases at Kennesaw State and Georgia Tech, while taxpayers will pay the salary increases at Atlanta Metro and Abraham Baldwin, Regents Chairman Ben Tarbutton said, noting that the pay bumps were based on the success of the presidents.

"The state of this university is excellent, even with the budgetary constraints we're all dealing with," , in which he thanked faculty and staff for working within those constraints and a struggling economy.

Papp said last year's capital campaign met its five-year goal of $75 million a full 15 months ahead of schedule. "We also saw the largest private contribution and the largest grant KSU has ever received," he said.

Meanwhile, Kennesaw State students will see a tuition increase of 2.5 percent this fall, the smallest tuition increase in a decade, according to the University System of Georgia. Tuition increased by 3 percent the previous year.

Georgia Tech, UGA and Georgia State will experience tuition increases at rates of 6 percent, 5 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.
