Simulated Dorm Burn Teaches Kennesaw State Students Fire Safety

Kennesaw State's security and safety officials will set fire to a simulated student-housing bedroom to demonstrate how quickly fire can spread.

Fire safety and prevention safety tips for Kennesaw State University’s 3,500 residence hall students will be illustrated on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at noon on the Campus Green. 

Kennesaw State’s security and safety officials will set fire to a simulated student-housing bedroom to demonstrate how quickly fire can spread when a lighted candle comes in contact with combustible items such as bedspreads, curtains, books or notebook paper.

Robert Lang, assistant vice president of Strategic Security and Safety at Kennesaw State University, and Jeff Cooper, director of University Housing and Residence Life, will attend.

Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services personnel will extinguish the blaze.
