YWCA Honors Kennesaw's Day

Debra Day, director of development for the Bagwell College of Education at Kennesaw State University, was recently recognized as a “Woman of Achievement” by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Northwest Georgia.

Day, a Canton resident and long-time Marietta resident, was one of eight women selected for the YWCA Women of Achievement Award, which is given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence. Debra was nominated and selected for her extraordinary contributions to family, community, charity and her profession. She was honored during the YWCA’s 2013 Tribute to Women of Achievement on March 15.

Day was nominated by Penny Warren, a Cobb County Schools social worker. Warren was working with Kennesaw State’s development office to raise money for an endowed scholarship for future teachers. Warren worked with Day for two years to raise the $20,000 needed for an endowed scholarship. Because of Warren’s positive experience, she nominated the Kennesaw State development director as a way to recognize Day’s efforts.

“What I found is that Debra is the perfect package of a woman,” said Warren, the wife of Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren. “She is so real. She is a Christian, a mother and a wife. She is involved with a civic club and a book club, and her job is very important to her.  She is gracious and sincere, and she balances everything so well.”

Day is a member of the Rotary Club of Marietta and serves on the School Governance Team for Lockheed Elementary in Marietta.  She is involved at North Metro Church as a lay counselor, providing career ministry to encourage and mentor young adults.  She has coached women in career transition over the years and is founder of the BeCommunity Women’s Book Club & Network, which can be found on meetup.com.  

Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Day served in the Army. She has worked for Kennesaw State for nine years.
