Bohannon played football and graduated from the University of Georgia, and has been an assistant for current Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson at Georgia Southern and Navy.

He also was an assistant at West Georgia, where he earned a master's degree in business education.

Bohannon was selected during what Williams admitted was an accelerated hiring process, even though KSU won't field a team until 2015.Β

Among the other candidates for the job included former Marietta High School quarterback Andy McCollum, also a Georgia Tech assistant coach, and Murray State head coach Chris Hatcher, who formerly was head coach at Valdosta State and Georgia Southern.
