Kennesaw Friday Night Football Preview

A private-school showdown between two sets of Eagles highlights the football schedule in Kennesaw tonight. All the games kick off at 7:30.

North Cobb Christian (1-0) at Mount Paran (1-0)—Mount Paran opens its Region 6-A schedule against North Cobb Christian, with each team looking to get a leg up in the early standings. North Cobb Christian crushed Mount Zion (Carrollton) 42-6 last week, while Mount Paran opened its season with a 27-23 win over Pace Academy. Mount Paran won this Eagle Bowl 54-6 a year ago.

Kennesaw Mountain (0-1) at Pope (1-0)—Kennesaw Mountain has gone 1-9 in each of the past two seasons (not including a forfeit win against Etowah in 2009), which could mean easy pickings for the Pope Greyhounds and quarterback Holland Frost. Frost roused his team from a sluggish start against Wheeler a week ago and helped account for all four of his team’s touchdowns in a 31-7 victory.

Woodstock (1-0) at Harrison (0-1)—Harrison will host Woodstock in search of its first win after dropping the season opener to West Forsyth, 21-13. Woodstock quarterback Jonathan Weiner showed signs of his playmaking ability in last week’s 14-10 win over North Forsyth, but Woodstock came into the season hoping to generate some excitement with Weiner and Pryce Washington alternating at quarterback. Harrison has to be more concerned about scoring points against a tough Woodstock defense that made an early 14-0 lead stand up in the season opener.

North Cobb (0-1) at (1-0)—North Cobb will have to find some emotional resiliency after losing to Alpharetta, 29-26, on a touchdown pass in the closing seconds in last week’s season opener. Centennial enters this game off a 27-22 win over Campbell, thanks to some late heroics by quarterback Jimmy Meyer. Meyer, who is committed to Harvard, has at least one big-time target to throw to in receiver Wade Francis.
