Kennesaw Mountain survived a seventh-inning rally this afternoon to beat crosstown rival North Cobb, 3-1, in the AAAAA GHSA softball championships in Columbus.

The loss ends the Lady Warriors' season. Meanwhile, the Lady Mustangs survive for at least one more game, ensure they will be among the final four teams in the tournament and extend their dream of winning the state championship.

A live presentation of the game through iScore showed that Kennesaw Mountain scored one run in the second inning and two in the third and had the help of five North Cobb errors. You can watch a replay of the game on iScore.

The Lady Warriors, meanwhile, had no hits entering the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but with one out Morgan Johnson hit a double to get North Cobb started.

Kaitlyn Lawrence hit a single to drive home pinch runner Joy Lowery, and Allie Coronado followed with another single to put the potential tying run on base.

But the next two batters grounded out to end the game.

Kennesaw Mountain will play Brookwood or Mill Creek in the next elimination game at 7 p.m.

Each of the Kennesaw Region 4-AAAAA rivals lost once in the Georgia High School Association’s eight-team championship tournament Thursday in Columbus. It’s a double-elimination tournament, so one more loss will send the Lady Warriors and the Lady Mustangs home.

One thing we know for sure: At least one of the two teams will be out by about 5 p.m. today.

That’s because Kennesaw Mountain will play North Cobb at 3 p.m.—if the Lady Mustangs get that far.

After losing the opening game Thursday to , 3-2, as reported by the Marietta Daily Journal, Kennesaw Mountain must win three games today and three more Saturday to claim the championship.

The Lady Mustangs start with East Coweta, a 9-1 loser against Collins Hill, at 11 a.m. today. If they win, they’ll play North Cobb at 3.
