Kennesaw State's Football Request Before Regents Again

The Board of Regents will consider Kennesaw State's request today.

Kennesaw State wants to increase athletic fees from $152 to $252 per semester to launch a football program and Title IX women’s athletic programs, according to the meeting agenda.

Fee requests generally are approved during the board's April meeting, but KSU is seeking early approval so it can begin a national search for a head football coach and staff as soon as possible.

The fee increase, if approved today during the board's February meeting, would be effective fall semester 2013.

KSU made a similar request last month in what school officials thought was the final step in their six-year quest to launch a football program.

But the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia delayed a decision on KSU's football program last month because "the number of athletic-related fee requests being submitted by institutions is an indication that a more systematic and coordinated approach to the review of such requests is in order," BOR spokesman John Millsaps said at the time.
