North Cobb Plays Tough, Loses

The Warriors are out of the football playoffs after Friday's 34-0 defeat at Camden County.

football season ended Friday night with a 34-0 loss in Kingsland against the top-ranked team in Georgia Class AAAAA, Camden County.

The Warriors (5-6) didn’t make things easy for the Wildcats (11-0), who are ranked sixth in the nation by USA Today in addition to holding the top spot in Georgia in the Associated Press media poll and the PrepCountry.com/GACA coaches poll.

North Cobb recovered a fumbled kickoff and a fumbled punt to set up drives deep into Camden County territory in the first half, but the Warriors failed on a fourth-down try and messed up the snap on a field goal attempt to come up empty, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. The Warriors also drove to the Wildcat 20-yard line before running out of time in the first half.

Camden County led only 14-0 at halftime.

But after North Cobb drove seven hours to play the game in South Georgia, the defense tired in the second half, and Camden County piled up 340 yards rushing, the Jacksonville Times-Union reported.

Meanwhile, the Warriors managed only 134 yards of offense for the game, the Times-Union said.

Still, after needing to against and just to make the Georgia High School Association’s AAAAA playoffs, North Cobb played Camden County closer than any team since Ohio’s Glenville High lost to the Wildcats, 23-14, Sept. 5.

North Cobb head coach Shane Queen told the MDJ he was proud of his team’s performance, and with good reason.

In nine games against Georgia teams before Friday night, Camden County’s average score was 58-5, and the smallest margin of victory was 42 points.

While the Warriors’ season is over, Camden County’s battles against Cobb County teams are not. Next up for the Wildcats is , which will make the trip to South Georgia next week after beating , 48-27, Friday night.
