Volleyball Final Four Pits Hoyas, Warriors

North Cobb and Harrison's fourth match of the year will decide a spot in Saturday's state championship.

A Kennesaw rivalry takes on statewide importance today when plays in the semifinals of the Georgia High School Association volleyball tournament.

The teams will play in the first game of the AAAAA Final Four at 5 p.m. at in Lilburn. Top-seeded , the defending champion, will play No. 4 seed in the second game at 7.

It will be the fourth time second-seeded Harrison (44-4) and third-seeded North Cobb (48-9) play this year.

The schools split their regular-season matches, with the Hoyas winning in straight sets Sept. 13, 26-24 and 25-23, and the Warriors winning 2-1 Sept. 24, 19-25, 25-21, 15-12, according to Georgia Prep Country.

That second North Cobb game was the only match Harrison lost all year to another AAAAA Georgia school.

Harrison then won the Area 5-AAAAA tournament championship Oct. 8 with a 3-0 victory, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

Harrison reached the state semifinals with three consecutive 3-0 victories at home, beating Newton County, 25-7, 25-8, 25-5; Mill Creek, 25-16, 25-5, 25-11; and Brookwood, 25-15, 25-12, 25-18.

North Cobb’s route was a bit rockier, beating South Gwinnett at home, 25-6, 25-6, 25-16; North Gwinnett on the road, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 15-6; and West Forsyth at home, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16.

The winners of today’s semifinals will play for the AAAAA state championship Saturday at 7 p.m. at .
