Dream Dash 5K this Weekend

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Kennesaw Teen Center.

The Kennesaw Dream Foundation announced it will host the inaugural Dream Dash 5k this Father's Day weekend to benefit the .

Founded in February 2011 by Councilman Bill Thrash, the not-for-profit center has served more than 75 students in its first year. earlier this year for his commitment to the community initiative, which provides a safe after-school environment where teens can study, receive mentorship and pursue their goals.

According to a release from the Kennesaw Dream Foundation, the partnership between local schools, businesses, government, and faith-based organizations hopes to serve additional students waiting to be accepted. Proceeds from the Dream Dash 5k will go toward resources needed to accommodate the growth.

The race is the second in the Kennesaw Grand Prix Series and will take place Saturday, June 16, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. in downtown Kennesaw. The course runs down Main Street into , loops around, then finishes downtown near the Depot railroad crossing.

Cash awards will be given to the top three finishers in each of the following categories: Men, Masters Men, Women and Masters Women. Special awards will also be given to overall champions in running divisions and the top three in each age bracket.

The general entry fee is $25 for the 5k and $10 for the One-Mile Fun Run. All registered 5k participants will receive an official Dream Dash 5k shirt, runner/walker number and goodie bag. Children participating in the One-Mile Fun Run will receive a cotton Dream Dash 5k T-shirt.
