County Park Open House A Success

Friends of Leone Hall Price Park trying to raise $250,000 for construction projects in 2011-2012.

The Friends of Leone Hall Price Park held an open house Saturday to invite local residents to see the beauty and potential of the 126-acre park, located at 4715 Stilesboro Road in Kennesaw.

Designated as a passive park by Cobb County, the park is named after Leone Hall Price, who lived across the street from the park. She gifted the majority of the land to Cobb County with the vision that it be a place people can enjoy for generations to come.

"We have some beautiful trails and passive areas," said Friends vice-president Terry Scoville. "It our best-kept secret, but we don't want to keep it a secret any more."

Friends is a group of local citizens who organized the 501(c)3 non-profit corporation to assist the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department in efforts to improve the park. Administrative, construction and beautification projects are planned but need financial support, in-kind donations or just the time, talents and energy of local volunteers.

Restrooms, a maintenance facility, playground and entrance sign are among the items needed, said Friends officials. There will be no sports playing fields at all in the park. The Allatoona Creek runs through the property, giving visitors a great place to hike or take a walk with kids and dogs.
