Weekender: Helicopter Rides, Art Walk, Fall Atlanta Home Show, Make-A-Wish 5K

A K-9 officer will be on hand to demonstrate skills these dogs represent in the police force. The event will also feature vendors, raffle items and special adoption rates. 

Make-A-Wish 5K on Marietta Square

The 13th annual Cobb County 5K to benefit Make-A-Wish Georgia will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, on the Marietta Square.

The race helps grant wishes for local children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy. All net proceeds go to Make-A-Wish Georgia. 

Final First Friday Art Walk of the Year

The last First Friday Art Walk of the 2013 season takes place on Friday, Oct. 4, on Marietta Square. 

Held the fist Friday of the month, April through October, Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour through Marietta’s diverse art scene. Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques host artists near their storefronts and are open 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Cobb Galleria's Fall Atlanta Home Show

The 30th annual Fall Atlanta Home Show at the Cobb Galleria is this weekend, and it's celebrating "three decades of offering homeowners the latest innovations in home remodeling products and services."

The show, taking place Friday-Sunday, Oct. 4-6, features hundreds of exhibitors, speakers, product demonstrations, giveaways, food trucks and home and landscape experts.

Helicopter Rides 

Helicopter rides are offered at the Marietta Museum of History's Aviation Wing on Atlanta Road at South Cobb Drive on the first Saturday of each month, weather permitting.

The next helicopter rides will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5. The flights take passengers towards the Marietta Square and Kennestone Hospital, and then out near Kennesaw Mountain before returning to the Aviation Wing. A second route was recently added, which takes passengers toward the Big Chicken, then over Kennestone Hospital to the eastern end of Kennesaw Mountain and finally coming back over the Square to the Aviation Wing museum. 

Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia has been transformed with ghouls, ghosts and goblins roaming the park. Enjoy trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting and more in the kid's areas. Featuring special Halloween shows, ‘scare-actors', a haunted house and more, this event runs every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 27, plus Friday, Oct. 25.
