Founded in the fall of 1993, Hayes Elementary School was named after Cobb County educators Joe F. Hayes and Harold Hayes. The school describes itself as "a school within a school" due to the fact that it is divided into a primary school (grades K-2) and an intermediate school (grades 3-5). Each has its own principal and assistant principal who effectively manage the different school curriculums and provide a more targeted focus on the varying needs of primary and intermediate students. The school offers a variety of clubs and activities, including Boy Scouts, Chorus Club, Drama Club and Hayes News Network.
