Residents came out to pay their respects to Army 1st Lt. Jonathan Walsh on Wednesday, and a memorial service is planned for today at 2:30 at KSU.
Kennesaw State University will honor its first alumnus killed while serving in the military during a special ceremony today on the campus green. American flags flew proudly in downtown Kennesaw Wednesday as the city honored fallen Kennesaw soldier 1st Lt. Jonathan Walsh, who was killed by an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan. Walsh was escorted by law enforcement and 50 riders from the Patriot Riders motorcycle group following the arrival of his remains at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. The body of a Kennesaw soldier killed in Afghanistan by a blast from an improvised explosive device will be escorted by law enforcement today following the arrival of his remains at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, a 28-year-old paratrooper, died April 22 while serving in Ghazni province. The motorcade is expected to depart Dobbins between 10 and 11 a.m., the Cobb County government says. A paratrooper from Kennesaw was killed Sunday in a blast from an improvised explosive device in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, a Fort Bragg spokeswoman said Tuesday. First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, 28, was killed when the explosion hit his vehicle, Fort Bragg Patch reported. Another soldier in the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division, Pfc. Michael Metcalf, 22, died later from wounds sustained in the blast. Both men were assigned to Fort Bragg, NC. Visitation will be held for Zach Gamble at the Woodstock Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements have been made for the Acworth Marine who died Sunday afternoon from head trauma suffered in Smyrna. Zach Gamble, 34, had worked as a corporate planner/buyer with Uni-Select in Kennesaw. The Woodstock Funeral Home will hold visitation for Gamble Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. for friends and family. The funeral will be held at Woodstock First Baptist at 2 p.m. Thursday, and burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens in Acworth next to Gamble's father, James. Yellow balloons floated into a sunlit sky Tuesday afternoon as more than 1500 people gathered on the Living Hope Church soccer field in Kennesaw to mourn, remember, and celebrate the life of Jeffrey "Jay" Ingram. The 32-year-old father of two died Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while jogging on North Booth Road Thursday morning. "Coach Jay" was many things to many people. The Kennesaw Charter teacher who died Friday after being struck by a vehicle has helped others through organ donation.
In life, Jay Ingram touched many lives in the Kennesaw community as a youth soccer coach, a physical education teacher at Kennesaw Charter Science and Math Academy, and a loving husband and father of two. In death, he continues to help others through the gift of organ donation. Ingram, 32, was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning while jogging on North Booth Road in Kennesaw.
