The recently reported illegal sale of alcohol to minors is a recurring issue at some Cobb County Kroger locations. It is important for Cobb Commissioners to take these illegal sales seriously and issue sanctions that are effective at deterring future violations. It remains to be seen whether a 60-day suspension of Kroger's alcohol license at its Powder Springs Road store will result in sustained compliance. Government and business practices proven to help prevent underage alcohol sales do exist and need to be utilized. Law enforcement use of compliance checks and government use of effective administrative sanctions have proven helpful. Business use of effective alcohol policies, hiring, training and management practices can also help. …

Mike Sansone of Kennesaw says that for the Hoyas, the need for a 9th grade center isn't a matter of feeling entitled.
The following letter to the editor was submitted by Mike Sansone of Kennesaw. To voice your opinions on the issues, e-mail our editor at gaetana.pipia@patch.com, or become a blogger on Patch. Cobb County School Board member Alison Bartlett held a town hall at Harrison High School this past Saturday night. In an attempt to defend her opposition to the 9th Grade Center as well as voter approved SPLOST 3 projects, Mrs. Bartlett made herself available to the Harrison High School “Hoyas.” Principal Griggers moderated, and as usual for all Mrs. Bartlett Town Halls, questions were submitted on note cards, and verbal questions were not permitted. Principal Griggers received the questions, and asked them aloud for Mrs. Bartlett to answer. At the …

Dear Friends of the Community, For 8 years Becca's Closet Atlanta's Kennesaw Chapter has collected thousands of dresses to distribute to girls in financial need free of charge. This award winning branch of the nation-wide non-profit has gone above and beyond to host fashion shows, help other state chapters get their start, and this year hosts their first Hospital Prom at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Now we find ourselves needing special help to continue our mission of making a difference for girls in need; we need a new location. For two years we have been grateful to stay rent free in a donated space on Kennesaw's historic Cherokee Street. The location has now been leased and it is time for us to move by the end of prom …

Kennesaw Patch editor Gaetana Pipia documents places and faces around town.
As your Patch editor, I live, work and play in Kennesaw. Starting today, I'll be documenting the local places I go and the people I meet in our new "Out and About" column. If you spot me around town, please say hello. Ask me a question, give me a news tip, or let me know what Kennesaw Patch can do to better serve our community. Plus, I'll give you, your business, school, church, or even your dog, a shout-out on the site. There aren't too many Gaetana's around town last time I checked, so if you hear the name, it's probably me. Plus, I'm usually lugging around a black computer case, my almost 7-month-old daughter, or in most cases, both. Speaking of Leizel, she just started seeing a new doctor at Kennesaw Pediatrics on Cherokee Street. She …

In today's From Bump to Baby column, Leizel reflects on her first six months of life.
For the past year, I have documented my pregnancy and motherhood journey on Kennesaw Patch. Today, Leizel speaks up and reflects on what really goes on in the mind of a 6-month-old. It's not easy being a baby. No one really understands you. While Mom and Dad try and do a fair job of it, their level of misunderstanding sometimes borders on incompetence. They are usually able to discern the differences between my hungry cry, my tired cry and my "there's something special in my diaper for you" smile, but they are yet to master the many nuances of Babyspeak. Clearly, when I stick out my lower lip and whimper helplessly, this means, "Hold me, I feel lonely." Now, if the volume of my whimpering elevates slightly, the meaning changes to, "Now …

The following letter to the editor was submitted by Mike Sansone of Kennesaw. Submit your letters to the editor to gaetana.pipia@patch.com. All parents are faced with a very important question: At what level should our schools be managed: at the federal, state, county or city level? We are now potentially facing a very important decision in our upcoming November election. “Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow state or local approval of public charter schools upon the request of local communities?” HB-1162 is a constitutional amendment that would allow the state to authorize state charter schools that have been rejected by the local boards of education. This bill has created quite a controversy. On one hand, Georgia PTA …

The CCT driver who was stabbed while breaking up a fight Monday has been suspended.

Thursday, February 23
Editor's Note: The following letter to the editor relates to the suspension of Cobb County Transit bus driver Damian Harvey, who attempted to break up a fight and was stabbed by a passenger. CCT officials said he was suspended for not following proper procedures. I am disappointed in the decision to suspend CCT driver Damian Haney for attempting to restore order on Route 45. As someone who is a frequent passenger on that route and the CCT system over all, I commend Haney for trying to maintain order and sanity during the ordeal that occurred on Feb. 20. For a transit system that transports nearly five million passengers yearly, I would expect the drivers to be able to be empowered to diffuse any situation that becomes a threat to the …
