A Kennesaw man and three other members of the nonprofit Final Exit Network right-to-die group were indicted Friday for their alleged roles in the 2007 suicide of a Minnesota woman, reported Apple Valley Patch. Thomas "Ted" Goodwin, 65, of Kennesaw and Punta Gorda, FL faces a felony charge of assisting 57-year-old Doreen Dunn to commit suicide and a gross misdemeanor charge of interference with a death scene. Also indicted were Jerry Dincin, 81, of Highland Park, IL; Lawrence Egbert, 84, of Baltimore, MD; and Roberta Massey, 66, of Bear, DE. In May 2007, Dunn placed a plastic bag attached to a helium tank over her head to end her life, reported Apple Valley Patch. Former NorthStar Church volunteer Cesar Pastrana faces 15 counts of child molestation and aggravated child molestation under an indictment returned by the Cobb County grand jury, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The indictment reflects the growth of the case against the 25-year-old Kennesaw man as Cobb County police have continued to investigate the North Cobb High School graduate's involvement with kids. Pastrana was arrested Feb. 10 on two counts of child molestation and two of aggravated child molestation after police said he molested a juvenile during a church lock-in at a private Acworth home Feb. 3 to 4. The warrants for those initial charges covered the lock-in and an August incident, according to jail records. Police …

A female student was attacked by a man at about 6 a.m. today in the parking lot of a residence hall, Kennesaw State University officials said in an alert this morning. According to the statement, the Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation into the attack, which occurred in a parking lot at the KSU Place residence hall near the student's car. The man is described as an African-American male with dread locks, wearing a ski mask, dark-colored sweater, jeans, colorful Nike tennis shoes and a dark-colored watch. He is said to be driving a silver car, possibly an older model Honda Civic. Kennesaw police issued a Nixle alert this morning about a theft from auto that occurred overnight in front of Big Shanty Smokehouse, located at 3393 Cherokee St. According to police, a white Suburban sitting in front of the business was forcibly entered sometime overnight. The driver's side door lock was destroyed and the steering column was broken, police said. Cobb firefighters will be at businesses throughout the county on May 4, 11 and 18—the first three Fridays of the month—as part of the Give Burns the Boot annual fundraiser. They'll be collecting money for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and a camp for children with burn injuries. One collection point is Town Center at Cobb mall in Kennesaw, said Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman Denell Boyd. Other collection locations are decided individually by each station in the county, but firefighters typically go to places like Kroger and Home Depot, Boyd said. Darrel Bates and Christopher Lucas are being held without bond on burglary charges.
Warrants were secured Tuesday for two men charged with burglaries throughout Kennesaw. Kennesaw police said 53-year-old Darrel Bates of Conyers is charged with the burglary of Big Pie in the Sky on Jiles Road. He is being held at the Rockdale County Jail without bond. According to jail records, Bates has been in the Rockdale jail since March 30 on charges of burglary and loitering and prowling. Thirty-eight-year-old Christopher Lucas of Lindale is being held at the Floyd County Jail without bond. He is charged with burglary of the Huddle House and Castrol Expess Lube on Cobb Parkway and could face more charges pending further investigation of similar crimes in the area, police said.
