Community Spotlight: North Cobb Students Make Prom Affordable for All [VIDEO]

This week's "spotlight" is on a group of Kennesaw Mountain and Allatoona students who are making a difference by showing their "Strength in Stilettos."

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the 3rd Annual Prom Dress Consignment Sale at Allatoona High School. As prom season approaches, young ladies from Allatoona High and Kennesaw Mountain High are doing their part to make the big dance affordable for everyone. The event organized by Strength in Stilettos is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2. Last year, shoppers had the opportunity to choose from more than 400 "gently loved" dresses. This year, there will be long and short formal dresses, shoes and handbags available for sale.

North Cobb Is Playoff Bound

The Warriors clinched the No. 2 seed in Region 4AAAAAA.

Two area high school football teams are playoff bound. After Friday's 31-0 victory over Campbell, Region 4AAAAAA runner-up North Cobb is set to play Valdosta at Emory Sewell Stadium. It will be North Cobb's first home state playoff game since 2007, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Elsewhere in North Cobb, Region 5AAAAA runner-up Allatoona will host Heritage-Conyers this week in the first round of the state playoffs. The Bucs hope to bounce back after Friday's 25-7 loss to East Paulding. It was Allatoona's first loss of the season. Related content

Making Prom Affordable for All

Stop by the Prom Dress Consignment Sale at Allatoona High School this weekend to help more teens enjoy prom.

Allatoona High School in Acworth will hold its Second Annual Prom Dress Consignment Sale this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event was founded in 2011 by Allatoona student Nina Brante, who's the President and Founder of Strength in Stilettos, and Kennesaw Mountain High School student Paige Smith. The goal of the dress sale is to make prom affordable and memorable for all.  Last year the event had more than 300 dresses available for purchase, and proceeds were donated to local school programs. Girls were able to sell last year’s dress to earn cash and shop for “new” dresses. Sellers can choose to donate any unsold dresses to Becca’s Closet, a non-profit that provides prom dresses to needy girls.
