Kennesaw YMCA in Cancer Study

Cancer-free participants are needed for an American Cancer Society prevention survey that starts in March.

Four Cobb YMCA locations, including one in the Kennesaw area, will be participating in an American Cancer Society research project next month. The ACS's Cancer Prevention Study 3 will take place at 21 locations throughout metro Atlanta, including the following YMCA branches in Cobb: Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are urged to participate in the study. The ACS is seeking to enroll 5,000 residents of metro Atlanta and 300,000 people across the United States and Puerto Rico. The study will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. Community Spotlight: Relay for Life Comes Kickoff Party

The first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings area is kicking off this weekend. Find out how you can participate and help fight cancer.

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Relay for Life Vinings-Smyrna Kickoff Party. The kickoff event will be held this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Hyatt Place Atlanta/Cobb Galleria. Learn how you and your family and friends can participate in the first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings community, and help support a good cause. Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Events in Kennesaw

From galas to walks to shopping, here's how you can participate, pledge support and donate to the cause in your Kennesaw and metro Atlanta.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in Kennesaw and beyond: In addition to these events, the Pink Ribbons program in Atlanta is organizing its annual fashion show and luncheon. The event is a great way to discover what’s in style this season and to raise money for breast cancer awareness. This event also features a fashion show where breast cancer survivors strut down the runway. The Weekender: Gospel, Musicals, Jokes and More

Here are some fun events happening in and around Cobb County this weekend.

Gospel Jam!  What: Gospel Jam is an informal gathering of musicians, singers and listeners, meeting on the second Friday nights in the Fellowship Hall of Poplar Springs Baptist Church for around 15 years. String instrument players (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, Dobro, bass, autoharp, etc.) and singers gather to play hymns and Gospel tunes, stand around the piano and sing and enjoy food and fellowship. Usually, there are about 25 musicians from many churches.  Everyone is invited to participate - either by playing, singing, clapping hands and patting feet or listening.
