Kennesaw Food Scores: J. Christopher's, Papa John's

Take a look at the food scores for Kennesaw business, including: Bullard Elementary, J. Christopher's, McClure Middle School, Papa John's and Subway.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. A sample inspection form is attached. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points. Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.

North Cobb Schools Tackle Hunger

Local elementary schools were challenged to collect food to help those in need during the holiday season.

Kennesaw's Bullard Elementary collected more non-perishable food items than any other North Cobb elementary in the inaugural Freedom Challenge Cup. Presented by Freedom Church, Piedmont Church, NorthStar Church and the City of Acworth, the Cup challenges local elementary schools to collect food to help those in need during the holiday season. Acworth Intermediate, Bullard Elementary, Kennesaw Elementary, Lewis Elementary, McCall Primary, North Cobb Christian and Pitner Elementary collected more than 17,500 non-perishable food items, said Jeff Chase, the assistant director of Acworth's Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department. Bullard donated more than half of that amount—9,000 items in all. Bullard Odyssey of the Mind Team Heads to World

The students will compete against teams from other states and countries this May.

Bullard Elementary School's Odyssey of the Mind team is heading to the World Finals where the students will match their wit and creativity against teams from other states and countries. The team has been working all year to prepare for the competition, a creative thinking program which serves kids from kindergarten through college in the United States and in 25 other countries. The students are required to develop their own theme, script, characters and props to solve one of six problems in eight minutes or less. Bullard's team chose to compete in the Ooh-Motional Vehicle category, which requires students to design, build and drive a vehicle that must travel a course and encounter three different situations. Kennesaw Schools Recognized

Kennesaw Mountain, Harrison, North Cobb, Lost Mountain and Bullard received awards from the Governor's Office.

Five Kennesaw schools were part of the 41 in Cobb and 370 across Georgia recognized by the Governor’s Office last week for improvements and achievement. The four levels of awards—platinum, gold, silver and bronze—are given in two categories: In Kennesaw, the following schools received honors: "Congratulations to these 370 schools for their commitment to hard work and high academic standards," Gov. Nathan Deal said in a release. "The principals and teachers at these schools are to be commended for maintaining a focus on providing every student with a world-class education."
