Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from Laurel Springs Way to South Cobb Drive. One lane will remain open at all times. The contractor will be installing construction signs, erosion control and begin clearing, excavation and grading. Utility relocation should not affect your service. Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Marietta and Cobb County, according to the and Cobb Department of Transportation. Georgia DOT continues work on the intersection and ramps at I-575 and Barrett Parkway. This project is scheduled to complete in June 2013. Expect delays Monday through Friday on Bells Ferry Road from Cobb Parkway to I-575 during asphalt paving operations. One lane will remain open at all times. Starting May 24, Cobb County DOT will begin work replacing the westbound bridge on New Chastain Road over Noonday Creek. This will result in closing the westbound lanes for four months or longer. Faye DiMassimo, Cobb County DOT Director, was recognized last week as the Woman of the Year by the Women's Transportation Seminar's Atlanta Chapter. The award was announced at their Annual Scholarship Luncheon at the Georgia Aquarium. The Woman of the Year Award is presented to honor a person, not someone within the chapter, who is an outstanding role model in transportation.

Take a look at the roadwork being done in and around Kennesaw this week, Sept. 17-21. Barrett Parkway, Burnt Hickory Road and Ridenour Boulevard are among the affected roadways.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners were briefed on the progress of a transit alternatives analysis presented by Connect Cobb, a project of the Cobb County Department of Transportation, during their Tuesday morning meeting in Marietta. The $1.8 million study, performed principally by Croy Engineering, looked at the best possible ways to establish a mass transit conduit from Acworth to Midtown. The presentation outlined several different mass-transit scenarios, including light rail, express service in HOV or managed lanes on Interstate 75, and a bus rapid transit (BRT) proposal.
