Since she was struck by a pickup in the early morning of Feb. 16, ex-Kennesaw State University student Emily Bowman was said to have been walking with a friend on Oak/Oconee Street. But according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the 19-year-old Cherokee County native was standing by herself in front of City Electric, 410 Oak Street. Bowman was waiting for her friend to return from the back of the building, where he had gone to relieve himself, when she was hit by a pickup allegedly driven by William Wilson Heaton. The national chain is organizing a fundraiser in which up to 20 percent of its proceeds will help the former Kennesaw State University student recovering from a hit-and-run.
A national food chain is stepping up to the plate to help Emily Bowman recovery from a hit-and-run accident that left her in the hospital fighting for her life. Pizza Hut on Wednesday, May 1 will donate up to 20 percent of its proceeds to Bowman, the former Kennesaw State University student who was severely injured in the hit-and-run in Athens in February. "This is a great way for people who couldn't make it to local fundraisers to help out," said Anna Lee Strickland, a Bowman family friend who posted the message on the Bows for Bowman Facebook Page. The ex-Kennesaw State University student, who is recovering from a near fatal hit-and-run accident, may have to find a temporary place to live until she's ready for rehab.
Friends and family of the ex-Kennesaw State University student recovering from a nearly fatal hit-and-run accident are asking the public to help them find a handicap accessible apartment or small home. According to the Bows for Bowman Facebook page, therapists at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta are suggesting family and friends of Emily Bowman temporarily relocate the woman into a small home so she can continue her recovery. She's been at the facility since March 8. The 19-year-old former Kennesaw State University student who has been hospitalized after being run over last month in Athens has achieved yet another milestone in her battle towards recovery. Emily Bowman, who has now been breathing on her own, opening her eyes and responding to stimuli, is now headed to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehab, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Bowman's uncle Neal Bowman said on Thursday in a post on the Bows for Bowman Facebook page that his niece has "made enough improvement that her doc[tor] told her mom she's now now technically in a coma." Bond was set at $50,000 this morning for the alleged hit-and-run driver accused of injuring a former Kennesaw State University student. William Wilson Heaton Jr., 22, of Rydal must relinquish his driver’s license, abstain from drinking alcohol, and remain under house arrest from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. each day, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Arrest warrants have been issued for a Bartow County man accused of running over and critically injuring a former Kennesaw State University student last month. The former Kennesaw State University student continues to make progress just three weeks after she was struck by a pick-up truck in Athens.
The former Kennesaw State University student who remains in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center has reached another milestone in her recovery. Emily Bowman, 19, has been taken completely off a ventilator and is now breathing through a tube placed in her trachea "that provides moist, oxygenated air," her uncle Neal Bowman wrote on the Bows for Bowman Facebook page. Bowman also wrote his niece occasionally opens her eyes and blinks, but still remains unresponsive to commands. The good news, he added, is Bowman is also moving around on her own and she's had about a dozen friends stop by the hospital and visit with her. The condition of the 19-year-old former Kennesaw State University student continues to improve as she recovers in an Athens hospital.
A former Kennesaw State University student from Woodstock who was hit by a truck in an alleged hit-and-run incident last month in Athens opened her eyes for the first time. According to the Bows for Bowman Facebook page, Emily Bowman opened her eyes around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night. "She opened her eyes on her own and blinked a few times like she was trying to see us," her uncle Neal Bowman wrote. "It lasted about 30 seconds to a minute and really excited her dad and I." Bowman's uncle also said the doctor is allowing Bowman to breathe a little more on her own and eventually would like to take her completely off the ventilator. Athens-Clarke County Police continue to piece together their case to make an arrest in the hit-and-run incident that has left a former Kennesaw State University student in a coma. Lt. Don Eckert, commander of the agency's traffic unit, said detectives have interviewed around 20 witnesses and will continue to do so in the incident that's left 19-year-old Emily Bowman in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center.
