Video: Tour of Camp McDonald Park

The historic location once served as a Civil War Confederate Army training camp.

Surrounded by lush greenery, the scent of honeysuckle and the sound of native birds, a stroll through the future site of Camp McDonald Park is one of downtown Kennesaw's hidden gems. Nestled in a quiet nook across from City Hall and fronting on Watts Drive and Main Street, the 7.5-acre green space was purchased by Cobb County with park bond revenue for the purpose of creating a passive park. April Saine and other members of the nonprofit group, Friends of Camp McDonald Park, gave tours of the historic property over the weekend during the city's annual Big Shanty Festival.
