The boys and girls basketball teams were defeated in the semifinals.
North Cobb High School's state basketball title hopes were dashed Saturday after the Lady Warriors fell to North Gwinnett and the boys dropped a close semifinal matchup to Norcross. It was the first Final Four appearance for the boys, according to northcobbbasketball.com. Senior Lee Moore was the leading scorer of the night with 23 points. However, Norcross went to the foul line 33 times, which was too much for North Cobb to overcome in Saturday's 59-54 loss at Georgia Tech. The margin was wider in the Lady Warriors' first Final Four appearance since 1967. North Cobb ended the first quarter with a 14-12 lead before North Gwinnett went on a 19-9 run in the second quarter. The Lady Warriors never bounced back. The final score was 57-40. The …

Home court advantage couldn't help Tift County in Wednesday's games against the North Cobb boys and girls basketball teams.
If the North Cobb High girls and boys basketball teams take down one more opponent, both will be in next weekend's state championship game in Macon. Home court advantage couldn't help Tift County against either squad. The visiting Lady Warriors Wednesday routed Tift County 55-30 to advance to the Class AAAAAA semifinals of the Georgia High School Association State Basketball Tournament. And the North Cobb boys prevailed over Tift County 68-63. Next stop for both teams: Georgia Tech, the site of Saturday's Final Four. The Lady Warriors will play North Gwinnett at 7 p.m. The winner will face Langston Hughes or Norcross, who will tip-off at 4 p.m. The North Cobb boys will take on Norcross at 8:30 p.m. The top team will meet Hillgrove or …

Both teams will visit Tift County this Wednesday.
The North Cobb High girls and boys basketball teams are two games away from a state championship berth after weekend victories over the Rockdale County Lady Bulldogs and the Morrow Mustangs. The girls team on Saturday dominated Rockdale County at home 70-37 to advance to the Elite 8 of the Georgia High School Association State Basketball Tournament for the third year in a row. Once again, Kyrie Chandler was the leading scorer of the night with 17 points, according to northcobbbasketball.com. In a tight matchup against Morrow, the boys walked away with an 80-76 victory. Leading scorer Lee Moore put up 24 of those points for the Warriors, who will make their second consecutive Elite 8 appearance this week. Both teams will visit Tift County …

The boys are ranked No. 2 in the state. The girls are No. 6.

And for the second consecutive year, the boys have achieved the same feat. The girls, ranked No. 6 in the state and the Region 4AAAAAA Champions, will play host to the Rockdale County Lady Bulldogs at 6 p.m. tonight. The Lady Warriors made it to the second round of the playoffs after Wednesday's 67-40 victory over the Coffee County Lady Trojans. The boys, fresh off of their 70-45 victory over Coffee County, will hit the court after the girls. Ranked No. 2 in the state, the Region 4AAAAAA Champions will take on the visiting Morrow Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. tonight. All tickets …

One of the two surviving teams from Region 4-AAAAA made the Georgia High School Association state AAAAA Final Four, but it wasn't the region champion ranked second in Georgia. Harrison, which tied for first in Region 4-AAAAA during the regular season but finished third in the region tournament, grabbed a spot in the Final Four, while North Cobb fell one game short. In a battle of teams unranked in the PrepCountry/Georgia Athletic Coaches Association AAAAA top 10, Harrison jumped out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter in Fort Valley and rolled into the Final Four. Ryan Blumenthal led the Hoyas with 27 points, The Marietta Daily Journal and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Also in double figures were Jay Bowyer with 13, …

North Cobb and Harrison are out of the Georgia High School Association girls basketball tournament after losing to fellow Region 4-AAAAA members Hillgrove and McEachern, respectively, Saturday. Meanwhile, Allatoona’s first taste of tournament success also came to an end short of the AAA Final Four. Details of the games are below. McEachern 69, Harrison 32 McEachern beat fellow Region 4-AAAAA school Harrison for the fourth time this season to raise its record to 31-0, while the Lady Hoyas ended the year 16-15. After beating Harrison by 57 points two weeks ago and coming off a 43-point win and 61-point first half against Westlake, the top-ranked Lady Indians had a sluggish start in Fort Valley and led only 29-14 at halftime, The Atlanta …

Take your pick of which tweet summed up North Cobb Christian's stunning 65-63 home loss to St. Francis in the first round of the Georgia High School Association's Class A boys basketball playoffs Saturday night: Perhaps North Cobb Christian, ranked No. 1 in Georgia in Class A, was looking ahead to an expected second-round game against second-ranked Whitefield, the team that knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs last year. Perhaps the Eagles had a letdown after completing an undefeated regular season with a Region 6-A championship win over crosstown rival Mount Paran Christian. Perhaps the regular-season schedule wasn’t rough enough to prepare the Eagles for tournament pressure. Perhaps St. Francis played its best game of the season. Or …

This year’s Georgia High School Association AAAAA girls basketball tournament started out just like last year’s—with Region 4-AAAAA dominating. Last year all four 4-AAAAA entrants—McEachern, North Cobb, Hillgrove and Campbell—made the quarterfinals, and the only teams that beat 4-AAAAA teams were other teams from the region and state champion Norcross. Friday night, all four 4-AAAAA teams—McEachern, Hillgrove, North Cobb and Harrison—won their first-round games against Region 3-AAAAA teams, and they’re a Tuesday-night sweep away from matching 2011’s quarterfinal quartet. While the two Powder Springs teams started at home, the Kennesaw entrants from 4-AAAAA had to take a long bus ride Friday, but it was worth it. Harrison pulled off the …
