Distinction Certificate Given to Mayor

Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews was one of 10 city officials to receive the certification.

Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews received the prestigious Certificate of Distinction for completing the nationally acclaimed training program conducted by the Georgia Municipal Training Institute. The recognition occurred at the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta on January 27. The Certificate of Distinction is the highest level of Georgia Municipal Association training certification. Mathews was one of 10 city officials to receive the Certificate of Distinction at Mayors’ Day which requires completing a minimum of 204 units of credit, including 12 required courses. Jenkins Earns Certificate of Excellence

He received the honor at the Georgia Municipal Association's Annual Mayors' Day Conference.

Councilmember Bruce Jenkins was recognized for earning the Georgia Municipal Training Institute’s Certificate of Excellence at the Georgia Municipal Association’s Annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta on January 27. The certificate requires completion of a minimum of 120 units of credit including nine required courses. The entire training program consists of a series of more than 40 six-unit courses. “This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Lamar Norton. “We commend Councilmember Jenkins for his accomplishment and for the dedication he has shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.” Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative …

Churches Asked to Ring Bells for School Shooting Victims

Friday will mark one week since 20 children and six adults were killed when a gunman opened fire in a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.

Kennesaw is asking local churches to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. Twenty-six people—20 of them children—were killed Friday when a man opened fire inside the school. The suspected shooter, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, committed suicide and his mother was found dead at the home where the two lived, according to Newtown Patch.
