The Weekender: Car Show, Good Mews Spring Flea Market

This weekend get out to a book signing and dog rescue adoption event in East Cobb, a car show in Smyrna, "Plan 9 From Outer Space" on Marietta Square, and Good Mews Spring Flea Market.

Good Mews Puts $25K Grant to Good Use

The no-kill cat shelter has begun construction on its new home on Robinson Road.

Good Mews won a $25,000 grant from Southwest Airlines last month and has begun work on its new no-kill shelter on Robinson Road near Roswell Road. The Cobb cat shelter was one of six nonprofit winners in the LUV Grants for Good contest Southwest ran to celebrate its arrival in Atlanta. The airline, working with judges from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, narrowed 352 entrants to 15 finalists, and online voters chose two winners each among large, medium and small entrants. Good Mews was one of the two winners in the small category. “All these organizations do so much to improve life in their communities, and we are so fortunate to have learned so much about them through this contest,” said Debra Benton, Southwest’s director of community …

Cobb Rescue Assists with Cat Cruelty Case

The animal rescue group is in northern Florida to remove and rescue the largest number of cats ever removed from one location in an animal cruelty investigation.

Cobb County's Good Mews cat rescue group is among several agencies assisting the ASPCA in the removal and sheltering of approximately 600 cats living in deplorable conditions at a non-profit cat sanctuary known as Caboodle Ranch in Lee, FL. The cats were kept in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. Numerous cats were found with untreated medical issues with many in critical condition. Responders also discovered deceased cats on the property. "Five of us are staying for a week," Good Mews shelter manager Robbin Yeager told Patch. you are soooo right!!! they should have offered to help instead of trap him like that --- and he's not even guilty!!
